Active Ethernet I/O

What is Active Ethernet I/O?
Conventional RTUs and I/O devices are passive terminals that rely on central host computers to manage communications. Moxa's Active Ethernet I/O is a new concept for PC-based data acquisition and control that introduces proactive, event-based reporting and control of I/O devices.

Unlike traditional passive RTUs, which must use a polling architecture for data collection, Moxa provides the Active OPC Server to make seamless connections with the SCADA system possible. It also supports the SNMP protocol to communicate with NMS (Network Management Systems) for IT users.

Active Ethernet I/O can automatically report and control I/O status based on user-specified conditions. This report-by-exception approach, new to PC-based monitoring, requires far less bandwidth than traditional polling methods. Critical sensor data can be obtained immediately instead of being subject to polling intervals. This makes network communication between the host computer and Ethernet RTU concise and efficient, and makes data transmission 20 times faster compared with traditional SCADA systems (50 ms compared to 1 sec). Active Ethernet I/O is designed for flexible and simple deployment. It supports multiple data protocols , including TCP/UDP, SNMP trap, SMTP (e-mail), and Modbus/TCP.

It takes just minutes to configure event-based reporting and control using the patent-pending, intuitive Click&Go™ logic interface, which requires no programming knowledge. VB, VC++, and BCB programming libraries are provided for easy integration with user-developed applications.

Active Ethernet Connection: Migrating from "Pull" to "Push"
Active Ethernet I/O supports general OPC servers and Modbus/TCP. These type of networks typically employ a "pull" architecture to update Ethernet I/O status, which involves an HMI/SCADA system continuously sending out commands to collect relevant data. Moxa's Active Ethernet I/O products , also support "push" technology which utilizes the bi-directional nature of Ethernet communications to actively push I/O data to the Moxa Active OPC Server, providing instant I/O status reports.

7 Times Faster I/O Response with Event-driven Tag Update
Active OPC Server and the Active Ethernet I/O series support "Auto Tag Generation," which eliminates the headache of specifying target IP addresses, I/O channels, and data formats one by one, or editing and importing configuration text files. Active tags are automatically created and the Active Ethernet I/O reports the I/O status only when it changes. In a test of 2560 I/O channels, Tthis event-driven tag status update delivered I/O responses 7 times faster than 3rd party OPC Server packages.

Seamlessly Connect to NMS Systems with built-in SNMP Agent
Moxa's Active Ethernet I/O series, ioLogik E2000, supports all versions of SNMP protocols, including SNMP v1, v2c, and V3. It is designed for applications which use the SNMP protocol. Working together with built-in Click&Go™, the ioLogik E2000 allows customers to originate an active SNMP trap to NMS. It makes your monitoring system and management for all Ethernet devices simpler

  • Supports SNMP v1, v2c, and v3
  • SNMP Trap is a change-of-state (COS) message or a periodic report
  • SNMP Trap can bind I/O status information
  • Secure communications with SNMP v3
  •
    Click&Go™ - Intelligent Local I/O Control
Moxa's Click&Go™ configuration system basic uses IF-THEN-ELSE statements which are a basic part of any programming language. The graphical, menu-driven interface is easy and intuitive to use,, and even an untrained engineer will be able to use Click&Go™ to configure a new I/O device in minutes.

  • PC-free intelligent I/O solution
  • Simple IF-THEN-ELSE configuration
  • Time stamped active alarm report
  • TCP, UDP, SNMP Trap, email, or CGI commands
  • Time-based scheduler and timer control
  • Input-to-output control over IP with peer-to - peer and remote action

User-defined content for active I/O messaging
Developed with remote monitoring and alarm applications in mind, Moxa's Active Ethernet I/O comes with an array of features that make deploying remote alarms friendly and easy. These functions are designed to simplify configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting. With Moxa's Active Ethernet I/O, configuring an intelligent remote monitoring and alarm system can be done intuitively with a few clicks of the mouse. Network messages are completely user-defined and can be configured for transmission when specific input signals are received. Messages can be customized with dynamic fields that indicate the exact time, date, or IP address of the I/O information.

    Peer-to-peer I/O for easier wiring
I/O signals can be easily and cost-effectively sent over Ethernet using peer-to-peer communication. This provides duplication of digital or analog signals between Active Ethernet I/O at different locations, without a PC or master PLC.

  • Provides direct input-to-output signal communication across Ethernet
  • Distributes one sensor signal to multiple locations without a separate PC or PLC
       and without any additional programming
  • Extends I/O signals using existing copper, fiber, or wireless Ethernet infrastructure,
       saves onsaving cabling costs
  • rovides solutions for areas where physical wiring is difficult or impossible
  •
Use a web console to Ccheck and configure I/O status
In addition to ioAdmin, the configuration utility provided by Moxa, Active Ethernet I/O can be configured using the web console. It offers a instant view of I/O status without involving an utility and or OS.

Remote update and deploy with TFTP Ssupport
The ioLogik E2000 can easily store and copy settings for mass deployment using TFTP or a Windows utility. The Active Ethernet I/O 's configuration, including IP address, I/O configuration, and Click&Go™ logic, can be exported to a file using the web console or the ioAdmin windows utility.

You may store the exported file on a computer. When you need to copy the same configuration to another Active Ethernet I/O server on the IP-based network, you may use TFTP, the web console, or ioAdmin to copy the settings. TFTP is a simplified FTP protocol that is built into Windows and Linux operating systems. You can use TFTP with a batch file or system shell script to establish an automatic system for upgrading a device's configuration.
